About the Program

Our Education Program aims to provide students and teachers with greater access to theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes.

We believe the experience of live theatre has a major role to play in students' learning: broadening their horizons; providing inspiration; and challenging them to consider alternative views of the world.

Belvoir offers schools performances to every Upstairs Theatre production and many of the productions in our Downstairs Theatre, and can offer increased access to our work through our Priority Schools Program.

We offer a range of workshops for students and teachers run by industry professionals at the theatre or in-school, and we can even travel to regional areas.

There are also opportunities to talk to professional artists and take tours of the backstage areas of Belvoir St Theatre.

If you would like us to keep you up to date more regularly, sign up to our education bulletin here. Learn about current and upcoming productions, workshops and resources, as well as exclusive offers and the chance to win free tickets.

Schools Performances

This year, we give you the chance to bring students to some of the towering classics of 20th Century drama as well as some brand new Australian plays in both our Upstairs and Downstairs theatres.

If you’re doing the Tragedy option with your HSC Drama students (and even if you’re not) you can’t miss Simon Stone’s (The Wild Duck, Neighbourhood Watch) production of Death of a Salesman, which sees Colin Friels return to our corner stage after an absence of 30 years. In 2012, Simon re-imagines two American classics: Death of a Salesman and Eugene O’Neill’s epic Strange Interlude

Representing the best of new Australia playwriting is the wonderful Babyteeth written by Rita Kalnejais and directed by Eamon Flack (your students may have enjoyed his recent production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and the upcoming As You Like It), Food written by Steve Rodgers and Old Man by Matt Whittet. Then there’s Benedict Andrew’s eerie Every Breath which seems to have emerged fully formed from the mind of this great director. Lucy Guerin gives us actors and dancers on stage together in Conversation Piece and two powerful new works based on real and recent events are being developed: Beautiful One Day and Don't Take Your Love to Town.

And 2012 sees our very own Artistic Director Ralph Myers wear his directorial hat when Toby Schmitz takes to the stage for Noël Coward’s Private Lives. You no doubt know this splendid comedy and its fabulous dialogue.
